Of Monsters and Men- Little Talks
Florence + the Machine- Breaking Down (Acoustic)
“Even when I was a child, I’ve always known there was something to be frightened of.”
Jack’s Mannequin- Restless Dream
JImmy Eat World- Kill
“Oh, God, please don’t tell me this has been in vain.”
Parachute- Kiss Me Slowly
The Killers- When You Were Young (Live at Abbey Road)
“He doesn’t look a thing like Jesus, but he talks like a gentleman, like you imagined when you were young.”
I have been on a kick lately where I listen to a lot of my older music and watching old videos.
I like doing this every now and then because it gives you a mix of de ja vu with an ephiphany.
When you first hear a song, you naturally relate it to the circumstances you’re presently a part of.
But when you replay it years later, you are able to look past the things that once influenced your impressions and hear the song in a whole new way. The words can end up meaning something entirely different, or you can finally come to understand the symbolism the artist was trying to express.
That’s why when you’re feeling lost, it’s always good to go back to your music library and sift through the old songs that used to inspire you. Just because the words in the music weren’t the answer back then, doesn’t mean they’re not exactly what you need right now.
If there’s one thing I have to thank you for, it is giving me The Strokes. I probably wouldn’t have given them the time of day if it weren’t for you. And because I have, it’s probably made me an all-around cooler person.
Every time I listen to their music, it’s like I have a specific memory tied to each song. I can literally almost account for each time I first heard a particular song. The music just brings back so many memories, happy and unwelcome.
The Spill Canvas- Himerus and Eros
The Limousines- Flaskaboozendancingshoes
On second thought, let’s not say names,
I’ll just be me and you be you.
Two perfect strangers being sneaky with a flask of booze.
No need to think of any clever pick-up lines to use.
I‘ve got a stack of records, you just bring your dancing shoes.
Love this guy/video/guitar so so much.
