Follow Up of the Day: In the wake of a firestorm over its decision to ban interracial couples from participating in worship services, an eastern Kentucky church has overturned the racist resolution with a second vote in favor of welcoming believers “regardless of race, creed or color.”
Gulnare Free Will Baptist Church pastor Stacy Stepp told the Associated Press that the previous vote was rendered void by the determination that church bylaws “can’t run contrary to local, state or national laws.”
The issue involving interracial couples joining the congregation first arose when Stella Harville, the daughter of church secretary Dean Harville brought her Zimbabwean fiancé to sing before members.
According to Pastor Stepp, the new vote passed with unanimous consent.

Well, thank God that’s cleared up.  But really, the damage done to the reputation of our area can’t be taken back.  So in all honesty, no matter how unanimous the vote was to overturn the previous vote, it makes little difference to those outside Pikeville.
I just wish people could for once see all the good things that can come from our area and appreciate the successful people that were born here.
Contrary to popular belief, it’s not all bare-foot druggies and racist extremists!  But since we’ve been a target for controversial news for x amount of years, it will take twice as long to create a new reputation.
